Anupam Kher attended the 19th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards with Robert De Niro and the cast of Silver Linings Playbook last night (January 27).

Kher, who plays Doctor Patel in David O Russell's Oscar-nominated film, described the journey as an actor which has led to this point in his career, The Indian Express reports.

"Every time I've crossed to a new level of film acting the film has been a breakthrough project. My first Hindi film as a leading man was Mahesh Bhatt's Saaransh which immediately established me as someone who knows the craft," said the 57-year-old actor.

"My first British film was Gurinder Chadha's Bend It Like Beckham which was a huge international success. And now my first American film Silver Linings Playbook is a roaring success. Silver Linings has proved a golden opportunity for me."

Kher was nominated along with the star cast of Sliver Linings Playbook in the 'Best Film Ensemble' category, but the award went to Argo.

The actor, who will attend this year's Oscars ceremony in LA, has said he feels rewarded for his 30-year contribution to cinema.

Silver Linings Playbook is the first film in 31 years to receive Oscar nominations in all four acting categories.
