Speaking to The Times of India, he said: "I am far from the miseries of home and enjoying my stay here. I and Helen share a great rapport and that makes the shoot all the more enjoyable."

The film revolves around an Indian family who move to France and open a restaurant a hundred feet across the street from a Michelin-starred French restaurant, run by Mirren's character.

Puri described the burgeoning romance between the two characters as "a spiritual one rather than being physical in its nature", explaining that they had not yet shot any love scenes.

The actor added that he had already received a congratulatory message from Spielberg, who was "very happy when he saw the first rushes".

Puri will be shooting in the Netherlands after the nine-week schedule in France.

It was recently reported that the actor is considering starring in a biopic of his own life story.

The East Is East actor has previously accused the commercial Indian film industry of ignoring him.
