Factual commissioner quits BBC

BBC factual commissioner Nicola Moody has quit the corporation, it was confirmed today.

The resignation of Moody - who was responsible for the hit shows Naked Chef and What Not To Wear - comes as the broadcaster shakes up its factual department.

Around 400 jobs are expected to be scrapped over the coming months as a streamlined factual commissioning team is formed. Moody, who was also a caretaker controller for BBC Four in 2003, had been expected to apply for one of four top posts in the new department.

"I've had a fantastic time at the BBC," she said today. "I'm very proud of the successful range of programmes I've brought to all four channels and it was a wonderful experience running BBC Four but I have decided that it is time for a new challenge.

"I've thought long and hard about what I want to do with the next phase of my career and while I will miss everyone enormously, there is a lot going on in the wider industry and I want to be part of it."

Jana Bennett, the BBC's director of television, said that Moody would be "hugely missed."

"I am very sad to lose Nicola as she has been a key member of the senior television team for a number of years, but I do completely understand her desire for a fresh challenge," said Bennett. "We owe her a big thank you and she will be hugely missed."

Moody has yet to reveal where her "new challenge" will take her.
