INTERNATIONAL TELEVISION FESTIVAL, EDINBURGH -- Some nuggets from the multichannel controller sessions include the revelation that UKTV will commission on UKTV Gold via a "three-prong strategy". Initially, original content will be somehow "rooted in the archive" - clip shows, perhaps? - but will go on to be talent-led. The channel is not looking for scripted comedies as part of the commissions. The amount of archive programming will be watered down across the network's channel portfolio.

Meanwhile, LivingTV controller Richard Woolfe admitted that the channel was at its limit of paranormal programmes. Instead he will continue a strategy of smart US acquisitions and creating UK versions of popular US formats (upcoming is a UK version of The Biggest Loser)..

Discovery is on a "three year journey" of re-invention, beginning with a huge investment in programming. The broadcaster is also planning to "get into HD in a big way" (no surprises there).
