Pinewood Shepperton, which announced its interim results this week, may be looking to acquire BBC Resources.
The company has expressed an interest in growing its share of the TV market and said yesterday it was considering a bid for the corporation's production group, which is now up for sale. However Pinewood confirmed such a move was "clearly at a very early stage."
In its interim results, Pinewood reported a 39% pre-tax profit rise on last year and said it would "continue to invest in the stages, equipment, facilities and ancillary services that will allow Pinewood Shepperton to maintain its premium offering."
BBC Resources consists of three divisions: BBC Outside Broadcasts, BBC Studios and BBC Post Production, which have combined revenues of around £125 million.
It is expected that the sale of the business will take place by the end of March 2008, subject to contract negotiations and approvals by the BBC's Executive Board and the BBC Trust.
