Heart 106.2 newsreader Simon Vigar has returned to Five News, ten years after he was part of the team who launched the channel's news service.

Vigar, who has presented the news on Jamie Theakston's Heart breakfast show for two years, takes the role of news correspondent for Five, reporting for it's 11.30am, 5.30pm and 7pm news bulletins.

He said: "I couldn't turn down returning to the place I still feel is my natural home. At Five News things are done a bit differently and, ten years on, the other channels are still playing catch-up. Long may it continue!"

A member of the original Channel 5 News team in 1997, Vigar spent seven years working at ITN's Grays Inn Road offices, also presenting for the ITN News Channel and IRN. Vigar joined Heart as a newsreader in 2003, having also worked for its sister station LBC.

Five News editor David Kermode said: "Simon was one of the original stars in the Five News line-up when the channel launched and I couldn’t resist this opportunity to bring him back. He’s got a great visual sense and a quirky style that really makes him stand out."

Five News, which is now produced by Sky News, has also recently signed BBC London's Matt Barbet, BBC Breakfast producer Robert Dersley, and made Jane Dougall a full-time staff reporter.
