Each week we'll be asking people from all parts of the media industry - from channel controllers to catering staff, directors to digital technicians - to tell us about themselves and their job.
This week it's the turn of Rebecca Rormark, senior vice president of marketing at Discovery Networks UK, and one of the team behind the Discovery's campaign to promote new show London Ink, which premieres on Sunday night on Discovery Real Time.
Name
Rebecca Rormark
Job Title
Senior vice president, marketing, Discovery Networks UK.
Age
39
Lives
Wimbledon
In the role since
January 2007
Responsibilities
I head up on-air and off-air marketing and communications for all 10 Discovery Networks UK channels: Discovery Channel, Discovery Turbo, Discovery Knowledge, Discovery Science, Discovery HD, Discovery Home & Health, Discovery Travel & Living, Discovery Real Time Extra, Discovery Real Time and Animal Planet.
Best thing about your job
People, people, people.
Worst thing about your job
Chiswick. I came all the way from New York for a fab job in London town... only to find myself in the leafy 'burbs of Chiswick.
First thing you do in the morning when you get in
Coffee and the continual temptation of a bacon roll. (The upside of Chiswick being the staff canteen!)
Any downsides to working in the media?
I just have to watch so much damn TV. It's hard, really.
What question have you been asked most this week?
"What on earth is that 24-foot swimmer with the tattoo doing in Potters Field?!"
Check it out, it's cool - oh, and then watch London Ink when it premieres this Sunday on Discovery Real Time.
First media-related job
Receptionist at The Children’s Channel. Thank God, I was saved after a month by the marketing director!
Biggest achievement to date
Surviving two years in LA working with Paramount Studios on MTV Networks' movie releases.
What piece of technology would make your job easier?
A nifty, green (of course!) chopper-style-thingy to pick me up at my door and drop me off in the large, green area outside Chiswick Park – 10 minute journey, max.
Anything you wish you'd done differently
Less flying, less jet lag, more time with the kids.
Best media jolly/event you've ever attended
MTV Europe Music Awards…I think it was good - all a bit of a blur!
Dream job/company/lifestyle
Yoga retreat by the sea in Northern California (is there such a job?)
Discovery Real Time's London Ink premieres at 10pm on Sunday, September 23.
