Dan Brooke has been promoted to executive vice president and managing director of Discovery Networks UK.
He has been general manager of the broadcaster's British operations, which now include 11 channels, since 2005. Recent developments for the firm have included a move into the entertainment section of Sky's electronic programme guide with its DMAX channels.
Brooke will report to Greg Ricca, president and chief executive of Discovery Networks International, and be responsible for Discovery UK's strategic development.
Ricca said: "This promotion underscores the increasing maturity and importance of our business in the UK.
"Dan's strong leadership has ensured the ongoing development of our business in the UK, including the launch of targeted new brands that have bolstered Discovery's reach, relevance and appeal in the market."
