Whedon net show crashes website

The website for Joss Whedon's new internet miniseries crashed from massive demand after the first instalment was released this week.

Thousands of fans were unable to access the web download of Dr Horrible’s Sing-Along Blog, about a bungling evil superhero, on Wednesday morning.

Whedon said the "silly" nature of the three-part story made it ideal for an internet audience.

"The things that have hit on the internet have almost all had that quality," said the Buffy The Vampire Slayer creator.

"From Star Wars Kid to The Landlord to 1,500 prisoners doing 'Thriller'. Not just the I-made-it-myself aesthetic, but the truly, transcendently goofy. The absurd. which is important to me, as an absurdist, is part of the internet’s identity."
