Five has confirmed reports that it is developing its first multichannel offering.
The broadcaster is planning to enter the crowded children's market with a channel based on its popular Milkshake strand.
The breakfast show features a variety of acquired and reversioned kids' programmes such as Bear in the Big Blue House, Hi-5 and Peppa Pig.
Five is currently the only terrestrial broadcaster without a multichannel presence. The proposed Milkshake channel is one of several options being considered by network CEO Jane Lighting.
"We are looking at rolling out Milkshake," said Nick Wilson, Five's controller of children's programming. "We have to develop other outlets. We would like to have a presence on the children's section of the electronic programme guide."
Welsh broadcaster S4C is also planning to launch a kids station later this year.
