Peter Salmon has quit as the BBC's head of sport after four years.
In a statement this morning, the corporation confirmed his departure and announced that Dave Gordon, head of major events, would take on the role until a successor was found.
Salmon, who was previously controller of BBC One between 1997 and 2000, is leaving to join TV Corp as CEO.
"I am sad to leave this extraordinary organisation after seven great years, running first BBC One and then BBC Sport – two of the best jobs in the British media," said Salmon.
"I leave BBC Sport at the top of its game, rejuvenated and reinvigorated with big audiences and major awards stacking up, like this week's Olympics Bafta, but the Television Corporation's ambitious plans are just too tempting to turn down."
