Bradby appointed ITV political editor; Sampson poached

ITV has unveiled the new team chosen to "spearhead" the broadcaster's political coverage.

Tom Bradby has been upped from UK Editor to political editor, replacing Nick Robinson in the role. The latter is returning to the BBC later this year to succeed Andrew Marr.

As an act of small revenge, ITV has poached BBC Two's Daily Politics co-presenter Daisy Sampson for the position of chief political correspondent.

"Tom Bradby and Daisy Sampson are both formidable political journalists and their appointment signals a change in the way we intend to report political matters in the future," said David Mannion, ITV News editor-in-chief.

"The rest of our team, including Libby Wiener and Angus Walker, will not be confined to Westminster. I want them out and about in the country connecting politics with the people."
