A peak of 6 million viewers tuned in for BBC One's tribute to Ronnie Barker on Tuesday, according to early figures.
The hastily-scheduled Ronnie Barker Tribute averaged an impressive 5.5 million (39.3%) over an hour from 10.35pm. The show peaked with 6 million (43.9%) at 11.15pm and earned a fourth place ranking for the day.
EastEnders topped the chart with 10.72 million (50.7%), followed by Emmerdale on 9 million (45.6%) and Holby City on 7.35 million (32.5%).
At 9pm, ITV1's Class of '76 lost more than a million on Monday's opener, averaging 5.17 million (24.1%) between 9 and 10.30pm, but convincingly topped BBC One's Love Soup, which had 3.84 million (17.4%) in the 9pm hour.
Property Ladder brought in 3.21 million (14.2%) to Channel 4 in the 8pm hour, while on BBC Two, Mastermind and What the Ancients Did for Us had respective audiences of 2.57 million (11.6%) and 2.95 million (12.8%). Five's Killer Shark Live put in 1.28 million (5.7%).
As usual, the CSI franchise lifted Five's audiences later in the evening, with 2.99 million (13.5%) for the Miami edition in the 9pm hour and 2.05 million (11.2%) for the New York edition an hour later.
Channel 4's The Unteachables held a steady 2.3 million (11.2%) at 9pm, against 1.62 million (7.3%) for BBC Two documentary Bingers: Battling Bulimia.
Sky One enjoyed a particularly successful night in multichannel homes, beginning with 425,000 (2.7%) for a repeat of Stargate SG-1 in the 8pm hour. The 4400 had 372,000 (2.4%) at 9pm while The Match Live scored a seventh place finish with 464,000 (3.8%) from 10pm.
ITV2's latest Bond movie, Die Another Day, drew a hefty 582,000 (6.8%) average from 10pm into the early hours, peaking with 613,000 (15.6%) towards the end.
