Four NBC affiliates have chosen not to air new network drama The Book of Daniel, according to The Associated Press.

The series, which focuses on an Episcopal priest with a gay son, has been rejected by KBTV in Beaumont, Texas, WGBC in Meridian, Mississippi, KARK in Little Rock, Arkansas and WTWO in Terre Haute, Indiana.

A spokeswoman for NBC said the rejection would not affect the series, as it has 230 affiliates nationally and the four affiliates make up less than 1 percent of NBC's national audience.

Conservative Christian groups have campaigned against the series, which stars Aidan Quinn as the Reverend Daniel Webster and depicts him talking with Jesus on a regular basis.
