Trouble has unveiled plans to launch a new channel based on content created by home users.

'Homegrown', launching late April, will not air as a traditional TV channel but will be rooted online. Users will first register with the website and create their own profiles before uploading viral video content from their mobiles or PCs for other users to watch and rate.

Selected content will be packaged together for a one-hour weekly show to air on the Trouble TV channel.

"This is such a great opportunity to reverse the tables and for once put our viewers in creative control," said Celia Taylor, deputy channel head for Trouble. "For the first time this will be a genuine chance rather than a stunt to make us TV folk look generous. Homegrown is a very exciting hint at the future."

Flextech has committed to a "significant investment" in the project.
