Channel 4 has outbid the BBC, ITV and Five for a 20th Century Fox movie deal believed to be worth in the region of £150m.
The deal covers over 1,000 back-catalogue films and all new releases.
The broadcaster is planning to relaunch its FilmFour movies channel as a free-to-air service in July. The new deal with Fox runs for two years and will apply to Channel 4, E4 and FilmFour.
