Celebrity reality shows headline Sky One's new autumn schedule, unveiled yesterday by channel controller Richard Woolfe.
Cirque de Celebrité will see eleven celebs train as part of contemporary circus group the Cirque Surreal. Every week for ten weeks the stars will perform live for viewers' votes; the one with the least is eliminated. Ruby Wax will be the Ringmaster.
Formula One will get the reality treatment in The Race, a week-long event fronted by Denise van Outen. Ten contestants will be split by gender into two teams; one mentored by Eddie Irvine and the other by David Coultard. Daily challenges will gradually eliminate the celebs until just six are left to battle it out in a high-speed race at Silverstone. Confirmed contestants so far include Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina the Teenage Witch), Frankie Muniz (Malcolm in the Middle), Cerys Matthews and Goldie.
A cross between Dragons' Den and The Apprentice, business reality show The Big Idea will see budding inventors showcase their products in the hope of winning a £100,000 top prize. Ruth Badger, no-nonsense runner-up from The Apprentice, will serve as an adviser for the seven-part run.
Returning series include The Match, Bones, Rescue Me, Battlestar Galactica, Vroom Vroom and Ross Kemp On Gangs.
"My mission for Sky One is to set us apart from other channel offerings," said Woolfe. "Sky One has a unique position in British TV - its sole purpose is to entertain. The autumn lineup showcases original, engergetic programming that's unashamedly entertaining and will become talked-about TV."
