BBC One controller Peter Fincham has defended his decision to poach The Apprentice from BBC Two.
The Alan Sugar reality show will be given a prime 9pm weekday slot on BBC One when it returns for its third series early next year.
"I feel very confident it will stand up on BBC One," said Fincham. The second series ended with a peak of 6 million viewers and a 27% audience share.
"I don't believe One can sit out of the reality boom," he added. "There's no barrier to reality on BBC One... but you choose [the series] very carefully."
Of the steal, Fincham said there was a "long tradition" of popular BBC Two shows moving to BBC One, pointing to Have I Got News For You and Little Britain as prime examples.
Meanwhile, he also defended legal series New Street Law from its critical mauling, revealing that it has been renewed for a second series.
