Lamacq, who will continue with his Radio 1 and 6Music shows, will present a Wednesday night 11.30-12.30am show, introducing new music to the station.

Mike Harding's folk show will move from Wednesday to Monday and from an 8pm slot to an earlier time of 7pm. Manfred Mann frontman Paul Jones' Thursday night blues show moves to 7pm on Wednesday.

Mark Radcliffe's 10.30pm Monday-Thursday show will move to 8pm to and will be co-presented with Stuart Maconie. The pair will broadcast live from Manchester, as well as covering live events such as The Cambridge Folk Festival and The BBC Jazz Awards.

Humphrey Lyttelton will share his Best of Jazz 10.30pm slot on Monday nights with Jools Holland, with Holland taking over for the summer.

Controller of BBC Radio 2, Lesley Douglas, said: "Humphrey Lyttelton's decision to present fewer Best of Jazz programmes prompted me to take a fresh look at the schedule.

"I am delighted to be able to give both folk and rhythm & blues earlier slots, giving both vibrant genres a high profile."

Nick Barraclough will front a series of country music specials to replace his hourly Wednesday night country show, which comes to the end on April 11.

Bob Harris's country show continues at 7.00pm on a Thursday.

Douglas added: "Country music remains high on the network's agenda – with Bob Harris's regular country show complemented by Nick Barraclough's new specials which will give a platform to the breadth of country artists."
