All3Media has appointed Giles Spackman to the newly created role of commercial and corporate development director.

Spackman is a big player with extensive business development and merger and acquisition experience.

He joins from AOL Europe, where he was executive vice-president, and is also a former group finance director at the Financial Times. Prior to the FT, he was group strategy and development director of its parent company Pearson, where he played a key role in the £400 million acquisition of Dorling Kindersley.

At All3Media, he has been given a remit to develop the acquisition and group commercial strategy of the production company.

Spackman's appointment follows All3Media's acquisition of Birmingham indie Maverick Television in June, taking its total turnover to £201 million. The group also made its first international move by acquiring one of Germany's biggest indies, MME Moviement.
