Channel 4 and Discovery US are re-evaluating the series Man vs. Wild following claims that survival expert Bear Grylls was sleeping in motels instead of the wild.

According to Broadcast, Discovery said it had learned that the crew and host used indoor accomodation on at least two occasions when viewers were led to believe otherwise.

C4 played down the accusations against the show, broadcast in the UK as Born Survivor: Bear Grylls, describing it as "not an observational documentary series but a how-to guide to basic survival techniques in extreme environments".

"The programme explicitly does not claim that the presenter's experience is one of unaided solo survival," a spokesperson told the magazine. "For example, he often directly addresses the production team including the camera man, making it clear he is receiving an element of back-up."

A spokesperson for Discovery said: "Moving forward, the programme will be 100% transparent and all elements of the filming will be explained upfront to our viewers. In addition, shows that are to be repeated will be edited appropriately."
