BBC creative director Alan Yentob has said the controversy over the alleged use of nodding shots in his BBC One Imagine series was handled badly.

The row started when it was suggested that noddys were edited with interviews in the programme to make it look like Yentob was reacting to the subject, when he did not actually perform the interviews himself.

Though at the time Yentob said he probably had used noddys, an investigation has since found that noddys not been inserted into any Imagine episodes.

Yentob told The Guardian this week that he was wrong to respond to the allegations before checking his facts. He said: "It's my own fault…it was foolish of me to respond in that fashion. I did not want to say no to something that might have been yes."
