Former BBC Radio 1 DJ Andy Kershaw has been jailed for three months for breaching a restraining order to keep away from his ex-partner.

He was sentenced on Tuesday at Isle of Man courts of justice for approaching Juliette Banner in August and November.

In October Kershaw was handed a three-month suspended jail term for the first breach of the order. He was also told to keep away from Banner and her new boyfriend Jim Imrie.

But in November he approached the pair in Imrie's home town of Peel, on the Isle of Man.

The court also heard Kershaw had sent unpleasant text messages about the pair to his and Banner's two daughters.

He was also banned from driving for 16 months after also admitting drink driving. He had earlier admitted all the offences.

High Bailiff Michael Moyle, passing sentence, told Kershaw: "You seem hell-bent on destroying yourself and you do not seem to appreciate that the author of your destruction is yourself."

The host began hosting a show on BBC Radio 3 in 2001 and it has not been confirmed whether he will return.

However, a BBC spokesperson said: "We have always said that this is a private matter. Andy has not been on air since Spring 2007. He is currently not under contract with the BBC."
