A record reach has been posted by Chris Moyles' Radio 1 breakfast show for the fourth quarter of 2007.

The show had a reach of 7.31m listeners, up from 6.98m in the third quarter and 6.82m in the same period a year ago. Those numbers brought the show closer to Terry Wogan's Radio 2 show, which was still the most popular with 7.73m listeners a week, than ever before.

Radio 2 remained the UK's number one station with 12.82m listeners. However, that number represents a year-on-year drop from 13.27m although the corporation added that "quarter four 2006 saw an exceptionally high total".

Radio 4 had 9.29m listeners, up quarter-on-quarter but down slightly year-on-year. The station's share, however, rose to 11.8%, up by both measures of comparison.

Five Live had 6.08m listeners, the first time it posted numbers above the 6m mark since 2006. Taking Five Live Sports Extra listening into account, the stations had a combined reach of 6.17m, significantly up from last quarter's low result of 5.65m.

Radio 3's reach was 1.95m, up slightly quarter-on-quarter but down from 2.03m in the same period in 2006.

The BBC's digital services enjoyed strong growth, with 6 Music posting a record reach of 493,000 listeners and BBC7 also posting a record 853,000 listeners.
