Barbara Knox
Barbara Knox is known to soap lovers and critics alike as the iconic Coronation Street character Rita Sullivan. After a one-off appearance on the show in 1964 as an exotic dancer, Knox's character made a triumphant return in 1972 and has remained a prominent figure on the Weatherfield cobbles ever since. Perhaps her most notable storyline occurred back in 1989, when 27 million viewers tuned in to see her stalker Alan Bradley suffer a tram-related death during a chase through the streets of Blackpool. In 2004 Knox received a Life Time Achievement British Soap Award and was made an MBE in the 2010 Queen's birthday honours list.
