Elizabeth Taylor

Elizabeth Taylor was a highly respected actress known for her roles in classic films such as 1958's Cat on a Hot Tin Roof and 1966's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?. Born in Hampstead, England, but later moving to New York due to the Second World War when she was a young child, Taylor's breakthrough came in 1944 when she had a major role in National Velvet. From that point onwards, she had a successful career, up until she retired in 2003. Having married eight times and given birth to four children, Taylor passed away in March 2011 after succumbing to symptoms related to congestive heart failure. It was not the first time she had health problems, as she had cardiac surgery to resolve a leaky valve two years earlier. The Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Academy Award was awarded to her in 1992 for her work against AIDS.
