Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks has a reputation as Hollywood's "nice guy" and his roles have all seemed to share this feature. Making his first break in 1984 as the male lead in romantic comedy Splash, Hanks spent some time in comedic roles such as in Big and Turner & Hooch with the characters getting progressively more serious as in Sleepless in Seattle. His part in Philadelphia won him the Oscar for Best Actor which was immediately followed by another for Forrest Gump: the two roles he is probably most famous for. His portrayal of Woody in the Toy Story franchise won him a younger audience while his appearances in films such as Saving Private Ryan, Castaway and The Da Vinci Code have shown his popularity in the action genre too.
