William Shatner is to turn his science fiction novels into a series of comic books.

The Star Trek actor told the Los Angeles Times that the graphic novels are to hit shops in March 2009.

Shatner, who reportedly refused a cameo in the new Star Trek film, has teamed up with BlueWater Productions on the project.

"I loved comics as a kid. I used to sit under the sheets with a flashlight and read Superman when I was six in Montreal, and now, with the comics as they are today, it's thrilling," he said.
