Superman's dad killed off in comics

Jonathan Kent, who along with wife Martha took Clark Kent in as their own after his pod from Krypton landed on their farm, dies from a heart attack in Action Comics #870.
The Man Of Steel cannot hear his mother's cry for help in the story and so is unable to save his father.
The character was previously killed off in US TV show Smallville. He also died of a heart attack in the original Superman movie.
Superman's real father is Jor-El, who died when Krypton was destroyed. Marlon Brando played the role in 1978's Superman and reprised it posthumously for 2006's Superman Returns.
