'Rise Of Cobra' comic debuts this week
IDW Publishing's official film tie-in G.I. JOE: The Rise Of Cobra #1 will be released this Wednesday.

According to the publisher, the book was written with film studio Paramount and toy firm Hasbro in mind, with the artists striving to capture the likenesses of the actors appearing onscreen.

Stars Marlon Wayans, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Sienna Miller, Channing Tatum and Christopher Eccleston have all been given the comic book treatment by artist Casey Maloney, who has previously worked on IDW's Star Trek series. Editor Denton Tipton will provide the storyline.

"Every page of the upcoming series clearly reflects IDW's commitment to bringing G.I. JOE fans the highest quality comic… and those fans will not be disappointed!" said Michael Kelly, Hasbro's senior global publishing manager.

The four-part series is said to follow the movie's plot closely, with one issue shipping each week leading up to the film's launch.

G.I. JOE: The Rise Of Cobra #1 will arrive in stores on July 1. The film is released in cinemas on August 7.
