Goddess of wisdom takes on New York City
Published Friday, Jul 10 2009, 10:28 BST | By Hugh Armitage

The goddess of wisdom and war awakens at the foot of the Parthenon in 21st Century Athens, unaware of her past. The story will switch between the modern day and the past.
Fabiano Neves (Xena, Red Sonja) will illustrate the pages featuring her occupation as an investigator for the New York City district attorney's office, while Paul Renaud (Cavewoman) will pencil the scenes that retell stories from classical mythology.
The series will be written by Doug Murray (Jungle Girl). He explained to Newsarama how his story will differ from the other tales of classical gods coming to earth that have appeared in the pages of comics.
"I'm trying to do this as a modern-day story," he said. "Without giving too much away, Athena isn't a goddess (or doesn't know she is) when we first meet her. She's just a normal woman.
"I'm not trying to have Hercules come to Earth and join the Avengers here - the concept is very different and deals with what happens to gods when they begin to lose their believers."
The four-issue series will begin in September.
