According to series creator Matt Groening, Aragonés will begin his run on the project with Bart Simpson Comics #50, which will feature his writing, artwork and cover design.
The artist and writer will also pen a new ongoing feature titled 'Maggie's Crib' and contribute to other titles from publisher Bongo Comics.
"I have been a Simpsons fan from the very beginning," he said. "I watch the show, read the comics and collect everything that has come out, so imagine the pleasure to now be writing and drawing my favourite family… I couldn't be happier!"
Aragonés, best-known for his MAD illustrations, is also credited with creating Groo The Wanderer and the Mighty Magnor. He recently concluded a run on DC's The Spirit as writer.
