The Identity Crisis and Justice League of America writer will take over the writing of the series after Jane Espenson finishes her run, Buffy creator Joss Whedon announced at San Diego's Comic-Con International.
Whedon himself will then return to write the final arc of the series.
Black Horses Comics' award-winning Buffy Season Eight continues the story of Buffy Summers and her companions beyond the ending of Whedon's cult television series.
