Marvel comic book Invincible Iron Man was awarded best new series at this year's Eisner Awards ceremony.

Launched in 2008, the superhero title features the work of writer Matt Fraction, artist Salvador Larroca, colourist Frankie D'Armata, letterer Chris Eliopoulos, editor Warren Simons and assistant editor Alejandro Arbona.

Beating DC's Air, Madame Xanadu and Unknown Soldier to the prize, the book's creators were lauded at a ceremony held during last week's Comic-Con International.

"I'm very proud of the entire creative team for their work on the title," said Simons. "Matt Fraction's written the hell out of the book, Salvador Larroca's a consummate pro who's done a great job with the art, and Frankie D'Armata’s colours have been terrific. With Chris Eliopoulos on letters, you've got a bona fide all-star team here."

The editor dedicated the gong to his late colleague Stephane Peru, who died of a heart attack in February.

"Everyone at Marvel humbly shares this award with Stephane Peru, who passed away while working on the first issue of this series. We miss him greatly," he added.
