IDW announces 'GI Joe' series
IDW Publishing has confirmed that it will release a new line of GI Joe comic books after securing a licensing agreement with toy company Hasbro.

A new series titled GI Joe Origins will launch this October, featuring the work of creator Larry Hama. The publisher will follow this with a second series of GI Joe: Cobra in 2010.

"We've essentially loaded the bases this last year with our GI Joe books and our creators are ready to swing away with year two," editor Andy Schmidt commented.

"We've learned a lot about what makes GI Joe tick and the stories are only getting better. The fan response to all the books has been tremendous, but we're bringing it to a whole new level this year."

IDW also announced that renowned artist Robert Atkins will return to the comic next year with a five-issue arc. It was also revealed that the new series will feature the demise of a "well-known GI Joe".
