We Will Bury You, co-written by Grant and her brother Zane, takes place during an undead onslaught in the 1920s. The series will feature interior art by Kyle Strahm and a cover design from 30 Days Of Night illustrator Ben Templesmith.
"Zane and I have been working together on music or other creative endeavours for a long time," Grant explained. "Growing up in a small town, we got really close because we didn't know that many people who were into the music and books we were into. So, it's logical to me that we would work together.
"We have a similar sense of the world, sense of humour and work ethic, so it just really works out. Plus, I can say to him things that I'm not sure I could say to another collaborator."
The actress went on to explain that the book's historical setting was selected as a means of exploring an under-used time period.
"We wanted to include worldviews of the time, slang and even jobs that you might not hear about in a normal history class. We both have a lot of liberal arts schooling, which is only peripherally useful in the real world," she added. "We wanted to use something we knew about that we don't get to talk about very much - say, at the grocery store or even in our day-to-day jobs.
"It may sound lame, but there's no reason you can't learn while reading a comic. I've learned a lot about history from reading historical novels."
We Will Bury You #1 will arrive in early 2010.
