According to ICv2, publisher Tokyopop will release an English translation of the comic book - originally produced for French publisher Casterman - one month before the movie arrives in theatres.
Shutter Island follows an FBI agent as he investigates the disappearance of a mental patient from a hospital located on an island off the coast of Massachusetts. The assignment takes a dark turn after a hurricane and mass breakout strike simultaneously, leading to a nightmare scenario that tests the agent's sanity.
The venture marks the first time that one of Lehane's books has been adapted as a graphic novel. The author's previous works include Gone, Baby, Gone and Mystic River, which both became Oscar-nominated films.
Shutter Island, starring Leonard DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo and Ben Kingsley, arrives in cinemas on February 19, 2010. The graphic novel is released on January 5.
