The Talisman, written by King and Peter Straub, tells the story of Jack Sawyer, a young boy who travels across a parallel version of America to save the life of his dying mother.
"I think The Talisman will work especially well as a comic, because it definitely has a large fantasy element," Furth told Newsarama. "The novel begins in a somewhat realistic fashion, but you begin to realise that although our main character, Jack, lives in our world, he also has access to another reality, a parallel world.
"And it turns out that in this other world, his story is also taking place, but there, the stakes are much higher."
Furth, who was King's personal research assistant between 2000 and 2004, has plotted the four Marvel Comics miniseries based on his Dark Tower books.
"[King] has always loved comics, so I think he's really open-minded about his novels becoming comic books, and that's why you see him being so enthusiastic about it," she said.
"It takes a story and puts it into a new medium."
The Talisman, published by Del Rey Comics, debuts in October with a preview issue.
Issue #1 will be released in November.
