Controversial author Salman Rushdie is considering writing a graphic novel.

During an interview on US television's Late Late Show, the internationally-acclaimed writer expressed an interest in comic books and announced that he is considering an offer to pen his own project.

"I got asked recently if I'd like to write a graphic novel. I was kind of keen on it. When I was a kid I was a real comic book nut. I could tell you a lot about superheroes," he told host Craig Ferguson.

The novelist went on to discuss DC characters Aquaman and Superman, before adding: "I'm quite attracted to the idea of a graphic novel. I might have a go."

He is best known for his Booker Prize-winning Midnight's Children as well as the infamous book The Satanic Verses, which angered sections of the Muslim community. He was awarded a knighthood for his services to literature in 2007.

Rushdie is currently affiliated with Random House, the parent company of graphic novel publishers Del Rey Comics and Pantheon.
