Greg Rucka was previously named as the sole writer of The Question #37, one of a series of new final issues released in January 2010 to show the Blackest Night's impact on previously cancelled DC titles.
DCU executive editor Dan DiDio revealed that the veteran comics writer would return to the title, which he revamped in the 1980s in his Newsarama column 10 Answers and 1 Question.
Speaking about the forthcoming final issues, DiDio said: "And by the way, we have a little surprise about those issues. Denny O'Neil is now involved in the writing on The Question issue."
Other final issues released in January will include Starman, Catwoman and Hawkman.
DiDio added that there are no plans to continue with any of these titles after January.
"This is that one encore performance that everybody wanted to see, but I think we're going to leave everyone with a good enough feeling about it that we'll stop here. We really wanted to bring these books back for one issue."
