The Brazilian cartoonist made a name for himself working with Joss Whedon on his Serenity miniseries. He has also enjoyed a lengthy run on Marvel's Black Panther and helped Dark Horse Comics launch Kull.
Conrad joins a long list of high-profile illustrators who have drawn Wolverine, including Frank Miller, Marc Silvestri and Steve Dillon. He will collaborate with writer Daniel Way on the project.
"Sometimes the stars just align perfectly," said editor Jeanine Schaefer. "Will has been doing amazing work on Black Panther, so when the opportunity came up for him to come on board Wolverine: Origins, I jumped at it."
Conrad added: "Artistically, I don't make a difference from one book to another. I'll do my best to accommodate the art style to the needs of the story, whatever the title is.
"Obviously Wolverine: Origins will be a more challenging book, if not artistically, simply for the fact that it has more exposition than Black Panther. And Wolverine is also a character that I believe every artist always wanted to draw - and I'm no exception. So I'm very excited with the chance."
Conrad's run will begin with Wolverine: Origins #47 in April 2010.
