IDW to adapt 'The Last Unicorn'
IDW Publishing is adapting Peter S. Beagle's novel The Last Unicorn as a comic book series.

The six-issue miniseries is scripted by Peter B. Gillis and drawn by husband and wife duo Renae De Liz and Ray Dillon.

Following the plotline of the 1968 children's book, the comic focuses on a lone unicorn as she embarks on a quest to establish why she is the last of her kind.

"I'm delighted that IDW is doing this adaptation of my book and by the real concern they've shown for the integrity of what I wrote," said Beagle. "Peter Gillis is a wonderful choice as a scripter - I couldn't have done a better job myself - and Renae and Ray have brought my characters to vivid life. Together with IDW, they are achieving something I honestly hadn't believed possible."

The tale was previously adapted by Rankin/Bass Productions as a feature-length animation in 1982, starring Christopher Lee, Angela Lansbury, Alan Arkin, Jeff Bridges and Mia Farrow.

IDW's The Last Unicorn will debut in April 2010.
