Fans have been guessing when the caped crusader would make his comeback but few would have expected to see him brought back from the dead and appear to kill several superheroes, including Superman.
Batman’s return came in this week’s Blackest Night #5, during which Nekron, Lord of the Undead, was revealed as the dark being responsible for reanimating dead characters as Black Lanterns.
Bruce Wayne was last seen in January's Final Crisis #6, when Superman was pictured holding the decayed corpse of what readers believed to be the Dark Knight.
A question mark still hangs over Bruce’s future, however, as shortly after he was brought back, Nekron returned him to the afterlife.
Blackest Night #6, by Geoff Johns and Ivan Reis, is out on December 30.
