The rights to certain aspects of the hero's origin story - including references to Krypton - were recently awarded to the estate of creators Siegel and Shuster. It is now being speculated that the upcoming reboot will exclude the character's home planet from his backstory.
Speaking to Ain't It Cool News, writer J. Michael Straczynski revealed that the story will follow a young Clark Kent as he leaves Smallville behind for Metropolis. He described the series as the character's "moment in the Garden of Gethsemane, where you have to decide if you want to endure everything that's going to happen to you if you decide to expose yourself".
The book will include several flashbacks to Kent's childhood in Kansas, showing readers "how the Kents helped mould him and protect him and get him to a point in his life where he can finally make this most difficult of choices".
It was noted that the scribe made no reference to the planet Krypton throughout the interview.
Superman: Earth One is released in 2010.
