According to Variety, L+E will identify concepts and hire writers, while Liquid co-founders Sharad Devarajan, Gotham Chopra and Suresh Seetharaman will adapt the ideas as graphic novels.
The new label Epic Cycle will launch with three titles: science fiction story H2O, Stuart Moore's kung-fu adventure A Thousand Arts and Ron Marz's Purgatory, which follows a scientist who is hired by the Catholic Church to prove the existence of an afterlife.
"I had been looking for the right partner to develop properties through the graphic novel space, and Liquid reaches an audience without huge costs," said L+E CEO Eric Eisner. "The primary focus is to create properties with franchise potential, and studio-driven material."
Sharad Devarajan added: "We've always looked at Liquid as a great way to incubate properties for films, games, animation and TV."
L+E Production is best known for producing the Steve Coogan comedy Hamlet 2. Liquid Comics was founded as a result of the restructuring and management buyout at Virgin Comics. It has previously published titles by John Woo, Guy Richie and Nicolas Cage.
