The comic will deal with the future of original Captain America Steve Rogers and his former sidekick Bucky Barnes - who has born the iconic title over the last few years - following Rogers's return from the dead.
The opening pages of the book show a flashback to Rogers and Barnes fighting side-by-side during World War II.
The returned Rogers has already been seen in several Marvel titles, but the full circumstances of his resurrection - detailed in the yet-to-be completed Captain America: Reborn miniseries - have not been revealed.
The one-shot is written by Ed Brubaker with art by Butch Guice.
Captain America: Who Will Wield the Shield? will be released on December 23.
