Kevin Smith to kill off 'Hornet' character

Kevin Smith is to permanently kill off a Green Hornet character in an upcoming issue of the Dynamite Entertainment series.

Based on an unmade film script penned by Smith, issue #3 of the comic will see the demise of either Britt Reid Jr, the original Kato or his daughter, the new Kato. The publisher has released a classified cover for the issue to keep the information secret.

The book's solicitation teases the unveiling of the "next generation of The Green Hornet, Kato, and the mysterious Black Hornet... [and] who is the mysterious Mulan? Three will Live! One will DIE! For Good!"

Written by Smith, Green Hornet #3 features artwork by Jonathan Lau and covers from John Cassaday, Joe Benitez and Stephen Segovia. A limited edition foil-backed edition will also be available with a cover design by Alex Ross.

A feature film adaptation of The Green Hornet is currently in the works, starring Seth Rogen and directed by Michael Gondry.
