The new titles will be set in mainstream continuity and written to appeal to both new and existing readers.
"Simply put, it's the top creators and top characters on stories firmly set in Marvel continuity but also accessible to new readers," Marvel senior vice-president, sales & circulation David Gabriel told Newsarama.
"There's something for everyone here big changes and character developments for long-time fans. And, at the same time, if you've never read a Marvel comic you can start here."
The line will begin in March with a six-issue Astonishing Spider-Man/Wolverine miniseries written by Jason Aaron (Ghost Rider) and illustrated by Adam Kubert (Wolverine) and a three-issue Astonishing X-Men storyline from current series writer Warren Ellis (Transmetropolitan) and artist Kaare Andrews (Spider-Man: Reign).
Astonishing X-Men has been a consistent bestseller for Marvel over the last few years, with acclaimed runs from Ellis and Dollhouse creator Joss Whedon.
The line will debut in May.
