The Blackest Night writer's promotion was announced yesterday along with those of Jim Lee and Dan DiDio, who will both be co-publishers of DC Comics.
Johns wrote on DC's blog The Source that when informed of the new role by DC Entertainment president Diane Nelson he immediately asked, "Um, what about writing? I love writing. I can't stop writing!"
He reassured fans that he would continue writing for DC - including the forthcoming Flash and Brightest Day series - and went on to explain what the position would entail.
"Under the leadership of Jim and Dan, I'll continue writing and giving my creative input as I have been in comic books.
"But expanding onto that, Diane's asked me to take our comic book world, embrace it (as I do) and use it to lead the creative charge on bringing it all to film, toys, television, video games, animation and beyond. The Justice Society appearing on Smallville was only the beginning."
Johns revealed he has already been getting involved with DC Entertainment enterprises, including the upcoming Green Lantern movie.
