DC's namesake Detective Comics has been honoured at the GLAAD Media Awards in New York City.

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation named the Batwoman-starring run on the title as 'Outstanding Comic', reports Robot 6.

Greg Rucka, J.H. Williams and Cully Hamner's critically-acclaimed stint featured Batwoman Kate Kane in the lead story and her former lover Renee Montoya - aka The Question - in the supporting feature.

Both characters are openly gay.

Batwoman will again receive a starring role in a forthcoming ongoing title, with Rucka and Williams at the helm once more.

Other nominees for the award were Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Madame Xanadu, Secret Six and X-Factor.
